Spain defeated France 2-0 tonight to book a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final for the first time in 16 years.

Spain have been one of the standout teams of the tournament. The Spaniards controlled much of the possessions after the first 45 minutes, enjoying 55% possession compared to France’s 45% while dictating the tempo of the game. France pushed for an equalizer before halftime but struggled to create clear cut chances as Spain comfortably protected their advantage heading into the break.
Second half: Spain returned with even greater intensity after the restart and doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Pedro Porro. The goal gave Luis de la Fuente’s side complete control of the contest as they continued to frustrate the French attack with disciplined defending and composed possession.
France, despite having arguably the best squads in the tournament, couldn’t match Spain’s energy, coordination and attacking prowess. Having reached the last two World Cup finals, winning the title in 2018 before finishing runners-up in 2022, Didier Deschamps’ men were aiming to become only the third nation after Brazil and Germany to reach three consecutive World Cup finals. Unfortunately, they were completely outplayed by a youthful and resilient Spanish side that looked sharper in every department.
Spain will now await the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between England and Argentina to determine their opponent in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. Their impressive run has made them one of the tournament’s biggest success stories, and they are now just one victory away from lifting the World Cup trophy for the second time in their history.
