Irish boxer Lee Reeves is receiving hospital treatment after being knocked out in the final round of his super-lightweight contest against Gary Cully at Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday night.
The 31-year-old from Limerick was left requiring immediate medical attention after a crushing left hand from Cully ended the vacant BUI Celtic title fight in the 10th round. Ringside medics rushed to his aid before administering oxygen, and Reeves was later stretchered out of the arena and transported to hospital.
An update released by Queensberry Promotions on Sunday confirmed that Reeves remains in a critical but stable condition.
“Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition. We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family,” the promotion said in a statement.
The bout had developed into a fiercely contested contest before Cully landed the decisive punch just 52 seconds into the final round to claim the vacant BUI Celtic super-lightweight title. Despite celebrating one of the biggest wins of his career, Cully’s thoughts immediately turned to his opponent.
“My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves. Hopefully he’s okay,” Cully said after the fight.
“He came in as a big underdog after fighting at a lower level, but he proved he belongs on this stage. Huge credit to him.”
Veteran promoter Frank Warren also expressed his support for Reeves, saying everyone at Queensberry Promotions remains in close contact with the boxer’s team while awaiting further updates on his recovery.
The all-Irish showdown featured on the undercard of Pierce O’Leary’s headline clash with Mark Chamberlain, where Chamberlain secured a dramatic 10th-round knockout victory in the night’s main event.
