Adekunle Gold, Afrobeats artist and songwriter, has revealed that during one of the most challenging periods in his life, he wrote a song for American pop sensation Beyoncé.
Gold revealed that Beyoncé’s team asked him to work on her album project, “Lion King: The Gift,” in 2019, not long after his father passed away.
“At the time, I was too consumed by grief to even think about music. But one day I forced myself back into the studio. Out of that pain, I wrote Simile.
He claims that even though he sent the song to Beyoncé’s camp, he secretly hoped it wouldn’t be selected for the project.
“For years, the track remained unreleased until 2024, when my longtime collaborator Michael replayed it during a session. It reminded me that even in my deepest loss, I was not alone. I had God to lean on,” he reflected.
Adekunle Gold has now added “Simile” to his most recent album, “Fuji,” in the hopes that it can ease listeners who are grieving or experiencing loss.
“Grief isn’t just about losing a parent. It can be the loss of a person, a friendship, a dream, or even a version of yourself; whatever it is, you don’t have to carry it alone,” he said.

In April, Adekunle Gold mocked fellow artist Joeboy for losing a N3 million bet on Real Madrid to beat Arsenal.
The match occurred in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 9th.
Hours before the game, Joeboy shared a screenshot of a bet he placed on Madrid to beat the hosts.
If Madrid had beaten Arsenal, the singer would have won N10.3 million. However, the Gunners’ 3-0 victory over the Spanish team means Joeboy lost his bet.
