Nollywood actress and producer Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has disclosed her earnings from her film A Mother’s Love, providing fans with an open analysis of the box office performance.
Omotola claimed in an internet video that the movie made N103,094,633 at the box office.
Nevertheless, the producers received N22 million after deductions.
She clarified that payments to exhibitors, distributors, advertising expenses, CAT, entertainment tax, VAT, and withholding tax were among the several deductions taken from the total.
The actress claims that 100% of the N22 million net was given to the NGO “Slum to School,” in accordance with a pledge made by her production firm, Red Hot Concepts.
She said: “Our last cinema run was on the 19th of April; it was a beautiful day. I had a nice time at the cinema, and it was my first time doing cinema runs. It was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe. You know, as a producer, you have to show up, and that was a challenge I wasn’t ready for.

“Unfortunately, that week, I had to pull the movie out of the cinema because of pressing issues. I know I would do the movie a disservice if I left it in the cinemas, and I wouldn’t have the time to promote it or be there in the cinemas, as the culture was or is at this time.
“At the end of our run, we had made a N103, 094, 633. After deduction from exhibitors, value added tax VAT, entertainment tax, withholding tax, and every other thing. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22 million. Ten per cent of that money, as promised by Red Hot, was donated to the NGO ” Slum to School”.
Omotola said that removing the movie early was a difficult but essential choice and that the movie run was a novel experience for her.
Online discussions about the realities of Nollywood film distribution and how much producers truly earn after her candour have spurred all deductions.
Omotola called the run a victory despite the significant deductions and claimed that the donation to Slum to School was an example of giving back.
