The cost of living in Lagos is higher than in the US, according to Afrobeats musician Daniel Benson, better known by his stage name BNXN.
The musician, who moved to the United States, said that, in contrast to his experience in Lagos, he has not had to deal with demands for money from street beggars or thugs since.
In a recent TikTok broadcast, BNXN clarified that although Americans also experience difficulty, the everyday financial strain is distinct.
According to him, Lagos is more costly overall than Los Angeles.

He claims that most costs are lower in Los Angeles, with the exception being housing.
He disclosed that he pays $12,000 monthly for rent in the U.S., but noted that once rent is settled, there are fewer additional financial demands compared to Lagos.

BNXN said, “I was telling someone, since I got to the United States, nobody has asked me to give them money. And people are also suffering here.
“Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive. For instance, I am paying $12,000 monthly for my rent. Here you just pay your rent, and you’re good”.
In April, American rapper Fat Joe revealed that he forced Nigerian singer BNXN, formerly known as Buju, to change his stage name.
According to Fat Joe, the Nigerian musician was coerced into changing his stage name since his previous moniker, Buju, was disrespectful to the legendary Jamaican dancehall performer Buju Banton.
In a podcast conversation with Buju Banton, the rapper revealed this.
“There is a fake guy in Africa using the Buju name, we dissed him on tv, shut him down, he changed his name. I told him there is only one Buju Banton,” he said.
