Charlie Kirk, a political activist and author, was shot on stage during an event at Utah Valley University, and the hunt for his killer is ongoing.
President Trump referred to Kirk as “a martyr for truth and freedom” and said that radical left rhetoric played a role in his passing. The death, which took place in front of a large audience, was characterized as a targeted strike by law enforcement officials.
The second day of the shooter’s search is about to begin. On Wednesday, authorities detained two suspects before releasing them.
Videos of the attack show that Kirk, 31, was targeted while arguing with a classmate about major shootings that involved transgender individuals.

Leaders from both parties decried the shooting. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was “heartbroken and outraged,” while former President Barack Obama said, “This kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy.”

Trump is sticking to his plans for Thursday, which include going to the Pentagon to commemorate 9/11. On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance and his spouse, Usha Vance, will visit Utah to honor Kirk’s family.
Utah Valley University will remain closed until Monday following the on-campus shooting of Kirk.
“All classes (in-person or virtual), campus events, and administrative operations will be suspended during this time,” the school said on its website.
According to the school, staff will continue to be paid as usual during the closure, but students’ coursework, assignment due dates, and tests will be postponed.
The school noted in an alert that there isn’t a continuous threat to the campus. According to the university, anyone who lost important belongings in the chaos following the shooting can pick them up today at the Young Living Alumni Centre.
