Actor and media celebrity Denrele Edun has revealed the rationale for his symbolic 45th birthday self-marriage.
The performer, whose real name is Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, revealed the unusual union in a social media video.
Denrele, who turned 45 on June 13, said in an Instagram story on Tuesday that the self-marriage was a means to commemorate his 45-year journey through turmoil, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, perseverance, heartache, and success.
“Till death didn’t do us part? So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote
He said he chose to honour himself as the one person who had stayed with him through every stage of life.
The act, he explained, was an embrace of every version of himself that fought to reach this point.

“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he declared.
Famed for his flamboyant style and unconventional persona, Denrele signed off the post with: “The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”
In January, Denrele Edun was open about his romantic life and sexuality.
The socialite, who appeared in a episode of The Moraya Show, disclosed that he has had bad luck in love, emphasising that his lovers frequently don’t return the favour.
“I have not really been lucky with love. People like us who have so much love to give to the world, we don’t really get it back in return. So, I have found it in different people and places, and I have realised that let me just love myself at this point.
“All my special attachments did not come out the way I would have loved it to. I have just realised that it is better I love myself,” he said.
Edun insisted that he is not the cause of his relationship misfortunes. “I am the easiest person to love. I have so much love to give,” he said.
“Recently, I was in a relationship with someone and I realised that once I make effort, people give excuses. That is what is happening in my love life all the while.
While I’m give clarity, they are giving me confusion. I will show commitment and they would not reciprocate. So, I realised that this is just a convenient to the person,” he added.
The movie star also clarified his sexuality by revealing that he has had “the best of both worlds.”
