The family of deceased actor Alex Ekubo has announced his passing.
The family announced on his Instagram page on Wednesday that he passed away at Evercare Hospital in Lagos as a result of complications from severe metastatic kidney cancer.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement partly read.
“After a brief but courageous battle, Alexx passed away at Evercare Hospital due to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.”
The family described his final days as marked by strength and faith, noting that “he bore his pain with remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope, believing that one day his testimony would be shared with the world”.
They also requested prayers and privacy, adding that funeral arrangements will be announced later.

“During this deeply painful time, we humbly ask for privacy and prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and for all who mourn this immense loss.
“Further details regarding funeral arrangements and other family matters will be communicated in due course.
“We sincerely thank everyone for the love, support, prayers, and understanding extended to the family throughout this period,” the statement concluded.
One of the most lucrative and varied actors in modern African cinema, Alex Ekubo is mainly recognised for his parts in Nollywood romantic comedies and dramas.
In 2020, he was named one of the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40″ by the United Nations for his contributions to entertainment and social development across the continent.
