All of the Nigerian employees of Dangote Petroleum Refinery have been laid off by the company’s management.
On Wednesday, political analyst Imran Wakili posted a remark to this effect on X.
“Under the pretext of ‘reorganisation,’ Dangote Refinery has officially laid off all of its Nigerian employees, less than twenty-four hours after ninety per cent of them joined PENGASSAN,” he said.
According to Wakili, the incident occurred less than twenty-four hours after ninety per cent of them become members of PENGASSAN, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria.
The company stated that the decision was made as part of a “total re-organisation” of the plant in response to reported cases of sabotage in various refinery units, according to a memo posted on X on September 25, 2025, and signed by Femi Adekunle, Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management.

In accordance with the notice, impacted employees were instructed to turn over all corporate property to their line supervisors and secure exit permission.
Additionally, the finance department was directed to calculate benefits and entitlements for payment in accordance with employment rules.
The management expressed gratitude to the fired employees for their contributions during their time working for the refinery.
PENGASSAN and the Dangote refinery are involved in a trade dispute due to a unionisation issue.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan emphasised the value of forgiveness and letting go, especially in politics, to foster national unity and progress.
Jonathan spoke those things on Wednesday night at the late Chief Audu Ogbeh’s funeral liturgy in Abuja.
He paid his final respects to the older statesman, a well-known politician and farmer, accompanied by his family, friends, and allies.
