An inquiry into claims that a Chinese mining firm abandoned Nigerian miners in the Central African Republic (CAR) has been opened, according to the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
This was said in a statement released by the Embassy in Abuja on Friday.
This comes after a video of Nigerian workers who were reportedly abandoned by a Chinese mining company in the Central African Republic went viral online, sparking anger.
The Embassy claims to have taken this issue very seriously and to have launched an inquiry right once, which is still gathering information.
“The Chinese government consistently mandates that all Chinese enterprises and citizens operating abroad strictly comply with local laws and regulations, ensuring all business operations fully adhere to local legal frameworks.
“The Chinese side will urge the involved companies to address this matter appropriately, maintain close communication with Nigerian authorities throughout the investigation, and work together to safeguard the lawful rights and interests of citizens of both nations,” the statement said.
