The father of Faith Opesusi Timileyin, 19, who killed herself after receiving poor grades on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Mr. Opesusi Oluwafemi, claims his daughter died from rat poisoning.
According to The Intercept, Faith killed herself after learning her UTME results. She had planned to study microbiology in college.
On Thursday, Opesusi told BBC Pidgin that the daughter was upset to learn that her score was just 146.
“My daughter scored very high in last year’s JAMB result. This year, they gave her 146, and that was what made her drink rat poison.

“She was devastated and disappointed when she saw her results,” he said.
According to him, the daughter did not open up. “If she had opened up, we would have consoled and told her that there is hope.”

The Intercept recalls that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, on Wednesday admitted to errors in the just-concluded 2025 UTME.
Oloyede, who broke down in tears while addressing journalists on Wednesday, apologised to affected candidates.
The errors, according to Oloyede, affected at least 379,997 candidates.
