MOBO Awards Founder Kanya King Dies From Cancer

Kanya King, a British businesswoman who started the MOBO Awards, passed away.

After fighting colon cancer, Kanya King allegedly passed away on June 3, 2026. She was 57 years old.

In a formal statement posted on Instagram on Friday, the MOBO Organisation revealed the depressing news.

“It is with immeasurable sorrow that MOBO Organisation announces the passing of its Founder and CEO, Kanya King CBE, on 3 June 2026 after a courageous battle with colon cancer,” the organisation wrote in a lengthy post.

Kanya King established the yearly British music awards programme Music of Black Origin, or MOBO, in 1996.

On February 12, 1969, Kanya was born in Kilburn, north London, to an Irish mother and a Ghanaian father.

Tributes for British-Nigerian musician Mark Orabiyi, better known by his stage name Talay Riley, who passed away on Friday in Silvertown, UK, from stab wounds, are still coming in.

The UK Metropolitan Police stated in a statement on Saturday that Mr Orabiyi, 35, had been stabbed and was discovered by the police emergency team in the yard of a residence on Rayleigh Road.

“Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” the police said.

The police said “A man in his 20s who was also taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds, remains in hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.”

According to the police, three people were arrested on Friday, June 5, on suspicion of murder.

They disclosed that a 27-year-old man has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

It stated that after questioning, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were released with no further action.

Since his death was announced, eulogies have come from the family and fans of the late musician, who had two albums titled “Yinka, Vol. 1” in 2019 and “Going To California” in 2011.
