The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed a viral letter circulating on social media, describing it as fake and falsely attributed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, speaking on behalf of the family, said the document titled “Urgent Message” did not originate from the former governor.
The family explained that the letter, dated July 14, 2026, and purportedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, was fabricated and should be ignored.
It urged Nigerians not to be misled by the document, insisting that El-Rufai neither authored nor signed the letter being shared online.
According to the statement, both the content and the handwriting in the viral document have no connection with the former governor.
The family described the letter as an attempt by unnamed individuals to spread confusion and create division through false information.
It maintained that those behind the document were engaging in deceptive political tactics aimed at misleading the public.
The statement further condemned the circulation of the letter, describing it as an example of irresponsible political propaganda.
The viral document questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State.
It alleged that Ashiru failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline.
The document also claimed that the issue had generated internal tensions within the party.
It called on the ADC’s national and state leadership to review the nomination process.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the claims contained in the letter should not be taken as his position.
The family reaffirmed that the entire document was fake and unauthorised.
It urged members of the public to disregard the letter and rely only on verified information regarding the former governor.
