Thirteen-year-old Chinese swimmer Yu Zidi has continued her impressive run at the Asian Games after claiming gold in the 200m individual medley.
Yu touched the wall in a new Games record time of 2:06.10 in Tokyo, finishing just four-tenths of a second outside the world record.
“Very excited, very happy. It’s an achievement that shows the hard work of our team,” Yu said.
The schoolgirl had already set an Asian Games record in the 200m butterfly on the opening day on Sunday, securing her first major gold medal.
Reflecting on her second victory, Yu said: “I’m happier with the second gold medal than the first.”
Yu also made history at last year’s World Championships when she became the youngest swimmer to win a medal, taking bronze as a 12-year-old as part of China’s 4x200m freestyle relay team.
