The former Golden Eaglets star is being sought internationally after failing to report to serve a one-year prison sentence handed down by a Danish court.
Danish police have declared Nigerian footballer Akinkunmi Amoo wanted after he allegedly absconded from serving a prison sentence following his conviction on multiple rape-related offences.
The announcement was made public on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, after TV 2 Sport reported that Copenhagen Police had launched an international search for the former FC Copenhagen winger.
Confirming the development, a spokesperson for Copenhagen Police said:
“The convicted person has been remanded in custody in absentia for the purpose of enforcing the judgment. In cases where there is a detention order against a person believed to be abroad, the police and the prosecution will seek to have that person transferred to Denmark. That is also what is happening in this case.”
Danish authorities alleged that Amoo committed sexual offences involving multiple women in Copenhagen between April and August 2022 while playing for FC Copenhagen. He was arrested on September 10, 2022, and spent about a month in custody before being released on bail in October pending trial.
On June 23, 2023, a Copenhagen court found the Nigerian footballer guilty of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault. He was sentenced to one year in prison, ordered to be deported after completing his sentence, and banned from re-entering Denmark for six years.
Amoo appealed the ruling, temporarily delaying both his prison sentence and deportation. However, in June 2024, the appeal was dismissed after he failed to appear in court, leaving the original judgment in force. His legal representatives later indicated they intended to pursue a further appeal.
The 23-year-old represented Nigeria at the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil with the Golden Eaglets.
After leaving Denmark, Amoo continued his career abroad, featuring for Shanghai Jiading Huilong in China before joining Ratchaburi FC in Thailand in 2026.
