Tottenham Hotspur are still searching for their first win of the season in the English Premier League after losing three and drawing two of their opening five games, following a 2-3 defeat to Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Tottenham found themselves 3-0 down by the 79th minute, with one goal coming in the first half and two after the break. Spurs tried to fight back and at least salvage a point, but it was too late as they could only reduce the deficit with goals in the 86th minute and stoppage time.
Tottenham were very busy during the summer transfer window, spending €267 million on 9 players arriving the team. The figure makes Spurs the third highest-spending Premier League club after Manchester City and Chelsea during the just concluded summer transfer.
The club is currently experiencing another difficult start under Roberto De Zerbi, who took charge towards the end of last season after being appointed in March 2026. He helped Tottenham avoid relegation last season, finishing 17th after securing three wins, two draws and two defeats in his seven league games in charge.
Moreso, the poor start has continued into the new season, with Spurs now sitting near the bottom of the table after five matches.
Elsewhere, Coventry City picked up their first Premier League win of the 2026/27 season after losing their opening four games without scoring or collecting a point.
The Frank Lampard side showed a resilient and spirited performance, looking quite different from the team that struggled in their first four matches.
After 25 years away from the Premier League, Coventry finally secured their first win of the campaign with Jay Dasilva scoring in the 55th minute against Nottingham Forest away from home.
The victory will come as a huge relief to Coventry after their frustrating start to life back in the top flight.
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka was involved for the entire game, putting in a busy shift in midfield, while Taiwo Awoniyi was absent through suspension after receiving a red card in Coventry’s previous match.
For Nottingham Forest, Ola Aina, who had played in a three-man central defence system, was an unused substitute under Oliver Glasner.
The win moves Coventry out of the bottom of the table, while Nottingham Forest remain on five points after five matches.
