Newcastle United and Premier League champions Arsenal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes in a deal worth £75 million. The Brazilian midfielder is now set to undergo his medical at the Emirates after both clubs agreed on the transfer fee, according to David Ornstein.
In a video shared by Ornstein, the *The Athletic* transfer expert revealed that Guimaraes’ former club, Lyon, will receive 20% of the profit from the sale. He also confirmed that Arsenal will pay a fixed £75 million fee with no add-ons or performance-related bonuses included in the deal.
“The Newcastle United captain, central midfielder, is joining Arsenal for £75 million. That’s a fixed, guaranteed fee with no add-ons or bonuses as part of the package. Although his former club, Lyon, will be owed 20% of the profit Newcastle make following his transfer from the French club a few years ago. It brings an end to this protracted, long-running saga. There were a lot of smoke and mirrors and denials, but eventually all parties got to where they felt they needed to be to draw a line under it.”
Ornstein added that the Newcastle captain is now cleared to travel for his medical after both clubs reached a compromise.
“Initially, talks were handled by intermediaries before progressing to club-to-club negotiations. A compromise was eventually reached, allowing Guimaraes to travel for his medical and complete the transfer he has wanted for a long time. Arsenal are putting their money where their mouth is.”
Newcastle, who parted ways with their head coach earlier this week, have now lost three key players this summer. Anthony Gordon has joined Barcelona, Tolani has completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur, while Guimaraes is on his way to Arsenal.
Guimaraes was a regular for Brazil at the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The Brazilian has represented Athletico Paranaense, Lyon and Newcastle United at senior level, having also come through the ranks at Audax. Across his club career, he has made 381 appearances, scoring 44 goals and providing 45 assists. He enjoyed his most successful spell at Newcastle, helping the club win the 2024/25 Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool, ending their long wait for a major domestic trophy.
He made his senior debut for Brazil in 2020 and has earned 48 caps, scoring three goals. Guimaraes was also part of Brazil’s gold medal-winning squad at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, making six appearances during the tournament.
