Everton owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), are considering selling a controlling stake in the club just two years after acquiring it.
The American group took over Everton in 2024 in a deal reportedly worth £400 million, succeeding former owner Farhad Moshiri after the club faced significant financial difficulties.
In a statement released by Everton, TFG confirmed that it was exploring new investment opportunities, including the potential sale of a controlling interest, following efforts to stabilise the club financially and oversee the opening of its new stadium last year.
“The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest.
When TFG became custodians of Everton, the Club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the Club’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.
With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.
Throughout this process, TFG’s focus will remain unchanged. We will support the Club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the Club serves.”
TFG, led by chairman Dan Friedkin, also stressed that any potential buyer must have the right vision and leadership to take the club forward. The group maintained that it would continue to support Everton’s ambitions on the pitch and its efforts to make a positive impact on the surrounding communities.
Since taking over, TFG has worked to improve Everton’s financial stability, while the club has moved into its new stadium, although the project was already well advanced before the acquisition.
However, the ownership group’s leadership came under scrutiny during the summer transfer window. A potential sale would mark a new chapter for Everton, with financial stabilisation and the club’s growing appeal to prospective investors among the key developments during TFG’s tenure.
