The Federal Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), is planning to resign from office.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Office of the Minister described the claims as false, malicious and entirely fabricated, urging Nigerians to disregard the reports.
The statement, signed by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, said there was no truth to the speculation suggesting that General Musa intended to step down from his position.
According to the statement, the ministry’s attention was drawn to online publications claiming that the Defence Minister had decided to resign from the Federal Executive Council.

The Office of the Minister stated that the reports were designed to mislead the public and insisted that General Musa remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities.
It added that the Defence Minister continues to focus on implementing the Federal Government’s national defence and security agenda under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement further stressed that General Musa remains actively engaged in overseeing Nigeria’s defence strategy and carrying out his official mandate.
The Federal Government urged journalists, media organisations and social media users to verify information through official channels before publishing or sharing reports concerning public officials.
It also advised members of the public to disregard the alleged resignation story, describing it as fake news intended to spread misinformation.
The government reaffirmed that General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.) remains the Minister of Defence and continues to perform his official duties.
