Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), passed away at the age of 72. The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, expressed his profound grief over his passing.
After a protracted illness, Justice Tanko Muhammad, a native of Bauchi State, is said to have died in a Saudi Arabian hospital.
The governor characterised the late judge as a man of integrity whose life was characterised by discipline, devotion to duty, and unflinching commitment to the rule of law in a statement released on Tuesday by his media assistant, Mukhtar Gidado.
Governor Mohammed said Justice Tanko Muhammad rose through the ranks of the judiciary with diligence and distinction. He served as a judge of the High Court, a justice of the Court of Appeal, and a justice of the Supreme Court.
Tanko later served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 2019 to 2022.
He noted that the former CJN was widely respected for his legal acumen and significant contributions to the development of Nigeria’s judicial system, adding that his conferment with the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) reflected his impactful service to the nation.

The governor extended his condolences to the family of the late jurist, members of the legal profession, and the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria.
“Justice Tanko Muhammad was a patriotic Nigerian who devoted his life to the service of justice and the rule of law. His passing is a great loss to Bauchi State, the Nigerian judiciary, and the nation at large,” Mohammed said.
Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents the Delta North Senatorial District, has responded to recent social media allegations made by his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, about his two boys, Munir and Khalifa.
Nwoko disputes claims that he is purposefully keeping Daniels from seeing the kids or publicly abusing them in a statement headlined “Take the Window of Quietude for Therapy” that was made public by his media staff on Tuesday.
Daniel’s posts were characterised in the statement as deceptive and inconsistent with accepted family customs.
