In connection with the alleged sexual assault of the governor’s aide’s 15-year-old daughter, the Edo State Police Command has detained the driver of Monday Okpebholo, the governor’s special adviser.
According to The Intercept, Moses Yamu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, told reporters in Benin City on Thursday that the suspect, Mohammed Ihuenuma, 50, had been arrested.
According to Yamu, the investigation is still underway and the suspect will face charges once it is concluded.
He urged the people to always notify the police of rape, defilement, and indecent assault so that prompt action may be taken.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has zero tolerance for cases associated with Gender-Based Violence, GBV.
The Intercept gathered that the suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the father of the victim.
It was alleged that the suspect often looked for an opportunity to fiddle with the teenager, who lives with her parents, whenever he came to the house on an errand.

A source alleged that the driver has touched the girl at different times in an indecent manner, trying to entice her.
It was further learnt that after several incidents, the girl reported the matter to her mother, who eventually informed her father.
The father later reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
