Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has faced harsh criticism following a contentious statement regarding hip-hop.
After repeating Wizkid’s notorious assertion that hip-hop music is obsolete, the “Declan Rice” crooner caused more controversy.
Odumodublvck brazenly declared, “Hip hop is dead,” in response to a list of Nigerian musicians who now have the most monthly listeners on Spotify via X. He was making reference to the noticeable lack of Nigerian rappers on the list.
Reactions to his post were divided; some criticised him for demeaning the music, while others maintained that hip-hop is still highly relevant outside of Nigeria.
Hip-hop musicians are not included in the list of Nigerian artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, despite the country having both successful and seasoned rappers. Instead, singers make up the top 10.
With 40.68 million listeners, Burna Boy is in the lead, followed by Tems with 40.64 million.

Ayra Starr and Wizkid are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with 16.84 and 16.81 million listeners, while Rema is ranked third with 29.43 million.
The top ten is completed by Omah Lay (11.24m), Davido (10.83m), CKay (10.71m), Fireboy DML (9.23m), and Asake (8.69m).
Singer Emoseh Khamofu, aka Bloody Civilian, has stated that being an artist has changed her perspective on the principles she was brought up with.
The artist stated in a recent episode of the Not Just On podcast that she no longer finds attraction in some of the traditional expectations her family has for a woman from the North.
The 26-year-old disclosed that she does not currently have any intentions to get married, despite the wishes of her family.
She claimed that despite the fact that she does not look forward to marriage, her family still brings up the topic.
Bloody Civilian clarified that her profession has shaped her perception of the surroundings and the family values she was raised with.
She said, “One thing my family still does not understand about being an artiste is that certain conventional things they expect of a woman from the North are simply not things I am excited to do.
“For instance, marriage is not something I am thinking of at all. But that question keeps being brought up.”
