Three infamous terrorist kingpins were killed by troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA, OPFY, in a successful ambush in Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counterinsurgency specialist, revealed the revelation via X in a post on Saturday.
The report states that the operation happened on Thursday, July 25, in the Tsamaye/Mai Lalle axis of Sabon Birni LGA, between the villages of Mallamawa and Mazau.
According to reports, the army killed Ali Yar Daribiyar, Gurmu, and Kachalla Nagomma, three prominent terrorist leaders. During the raid, a motorbike and three AK-47 weapons with magazines were found.
Security sources said the terrorists, along with their foot soldiers, had stormed the area to collect ransom and illegal levies imposed on residents when they were ambushed by troops.
The operation was said to have triggered widespread relief and jubilation in Mai Lalle, Tsamaye, Rimaye and other communities across Sabon Birni and Goronyo LGAs.
“These terrorists have long tormented the communities with killings, kidnappings and extortion, so this success is a huge morale boost for the people,” a source was quoted as saying.
Troops have continued to intensify both kinetic and non-kinetic operations in the area, working in synergy with other security agencies and local vigilante groups.
The military has urged members of the public to support ongoing efforts by providing credible and timely information to help in dismantling criminal hideouts.
