The former senator from Delta North, Peter Nwaoboshi, has passed away.
The 68-year-old former senator passed away in Abuja on Friday. The specifics of his death were unknown at the time of this story.
The governor of Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed “profound grief” on the former lawmaker’s passing in a statement.
His passing, according to the governor, was a huge loss for Nigeria, the state, and the Anioma nation.
In a condolence message signed by Festus Ahon, his chief press secretary (CPS), Oborevwori hailed the late Nwaoboshi as a dedicated son of Delta and a bold champion of Anioma interests, whose legacy in nation-building will endure.
The governor said the late senator’s distinguished tenure in the national assembly, particularly as chairman of the senate committee on Niger Delta affairs.
“Nwaoboshi lived a life of service to his people, his party, and the country. Bequeathing a heritage of bravery, loyalty, and commitment to public duty,” Oborevwori said.
“On behalf of the Delta State government and people, I mourn my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi.

Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), passed away at the age of 72. The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, expressed his profound grief over his passing.
After a protracted illness, Justice Tanko Muhammad, a native of Bauchi State, is said to have died in a Saudi Arabian hospital.
The governor characterised the late judge as a man of integrity whose life was characterised by discipline, devotion to duty, and unflinching commitment to the rule of law in a statement released on Tuesday by his media assistant, Mukhtar Gidado.
Governor Mohammed said Justice Tanko Muhammad rose through the ranks of the judiciary with diligence and distinction. He served as a judge of the High Court, a justice of the Court of Appeal, and a justice of the Supreme Court.
Tanko later served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 2019 to 2022.
