Arsenal have yet again proven their worth and put up a champions’ display away at Sunderland after claiming all three points and keeping another clean sheet.
Sunderland proved very stubborn, holding 48% possession against Arsenal’s 52%. The home side had eight shots on goal, the same number managed by Arsenal.
The first half was intense, ending goalless with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The second half resumed with Sunderland being awarded a penalty, but they blew their chance after David Raya saved the spot-kick in the 56th minute.
Bruno Guimaraes, who was brought on in the second half, scored Arsenal’s first goal just two minutes after Sunderland missed the spot-kick, breaking the deadlock. It was Guimaraes’ first goal for the Gunners since arriving from Newcastle United this summer.
Bukayo Saka made it 2-0 in added time, scoring from the spot to seal the victory for Arsenal. Before then, Sunderland’s Reinildo Mandava had been shown a red card, reducing the home side to 10 men.
The victory means this is David Raya’s third clean sheet in four Premier League games and his fourth in all five games, including the Champions League.
Raya would become the first goalkeeper to win the Premier League Golden Glove for a fourth consecutive time if he finishes the season with the most clean sheets again.
Arsenal have now gone top of the league with 12 points after winning all four of their games and remain unbeaten.
