A short video circulating on X appears to show a Manchester United fan collapsing in the stands at Old Trafford following the club’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night.
The incident reportedly sparked concern among supporters nearby, with people seen reacting to the situation as Brighton completed a stunning comeback to knock United out of the Carabao Cup.
Manchester United made a flying start to the third-round encounter, racing into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes through Shea Lacey and Mason Mount.
Brighton, though, fought back before half-time when Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back in first-half stoppage time.
The visitors completed the turnaround after the break, with Pascal Groß equalising in the 65th minute before Maxim De Cuyper scored four minutes later to make it 3-2.
The defeat ended Manchester United’s Carabao Cup campaign in the third round, while Brighton advanced to the fourth round. It was also the first time in 50 years that United had lost at Old Trafford after taking a two-goal lead.
The result came just days after United suffered a controversial 1-0 Premier League defeat to city rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford, leaving Michael Carrick’s side with back-to-back defeats.
Carrick accepted responsibility for the collapse after the game, saying the manner of the defeat was unacceptable.
As of the time of writing, there was no official statement from Manchester United regarding the reported incident involving the fan. The reported fainting should therefore be attributed to the circulating video until the circumstances are independently confirmed.
