Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has disclosed that he once took out loans to support his extravagant lifestyle.
In a recent episode of the MENtality podcast, Egbuson talked about how he used to spend a lot of money on fashion and his lifestyle in general, but he eventually came to the realisation that genuine happiness is more important than the continual pressure to buy the newest luxury goods and show them off online.
He claimed that buying property would have been a better use of the money he spent collecting perfumes.
He said, “There will always be a newer watch, a newer car. I used to be a perfume collector. I had about 150. But I realised that I could have invested the money I spent acquiring perfumes in purchasing land…
“I’m not trying to talk down on having a nice car or watch. But are you doing it for yourself or because of peer pressure? Are you genuinely happy with it? And without it, would you still be happy?

“There are times when I have been broke, but my energy is always the same because I found a way to be happy with whatever I have. For people who are watching me, I always try to let them know that there will be bad and good days. And if you dwell on the bad days and you can’t find yourself, you can’t step out or create content, that means you are living a lie. And I wonder how long you can live that lie.
“I used to be that guy who lived a fake life and borrowed to impress people. But not anymore,” Egbuson added.
In July 2025, Timini Egbuson said he is not a serial cheat or a womaniser, contrary to widespread assumptions.
He explained that his age, work, and demanding schedule do not permit indulgence.
The 38-year-old revealed that he has been single for the past two to three years.
He disclosed it in a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, which also featured Super Eagles star Victor Boniface and comedian Bovi.
Timini Egbuson said,
“A lot of people assume that I’m a womaniser. But I’m not. In the past two, three years, Nollywood has taken over my life in a way that there’s no room, except you will be the most unserious [to womanise].
“I even wonder how some of my friends who womanise, date four or five girls simultaneously, have time to attend to all of them. Because from being on set all day to getting back tired at 11 pm, I will now start chatting a lady? I don’t have the capacity for that. So, I’m not in the street as people may think I am.”
