Actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has stated that women shouldn’t marry in their 20s.
She claims that most women in their 20s are still figuring out who they are and don’t even know how to make better choices.
Makinwa asserted that the majority of women who marry in their 20s regret it during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moment, which featured reality star Tacha as a guest.

“Women have no business getting married in their 20s… You don’t even know yourself yet. Those who did are regretting it now. Even those who are still married if they are being honest, they will tell you that they shouldn’t have rushed it,” she said.
Her guest on the show Tacha added, “My mum says marriage is like an institution. Those inside want to get out, those outside can’t wait to get in.”

In September 2025, Toke Makinwa said that having a child assisted her in healing from traumatic events and childhood trauma that she believed she had already dealt with.
In a post on X, the 40-year-old revealed this, saying that her daughter Yakira Eliana, whom she welcomed in August 2025, has been a daily source of solace.
She wrote
“My daughter brought me healing, she is daily healing parts of me I didn’t even know needed healing, healing from my childhood trauma, from grief I thought I had dealt with a long time ago. Maybe God knew I needed this.”
Toke Makinwa has frequently referred to the loss of her parents in a gas explosion when she was eight years old as one of the most agonising experiences of her life.
After three years of marriage, she and fitness coach Maje Ayida also went through a public divorce in 2017.
However, the on-air personality claimed that becoming a mother has changed her viewpoint and is assisting her in healing past traumas.
