The APC Integrity Group has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Umar Al-Makura, as Director-General of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The group said Al-Makura has the leadership experience, political loyalty and organisational capacity needed to coordinate a united and effective presidential campaign for the ruling party.
In a statement jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim Mamman, and National Secretary, Goodluck Okafor, the group said it carefully evaluated prominent APC figures reportedly being considered for the strategic position before concluding that Al-Makura is the most qualified candidate.
According to the statement, although several respected party leaders possess the credentials to serve in the role, the APC requires a campaign director with a proven record of leadership, broad national acceptance and the ability to unite party members across different interests.
The group described Al-Makura as one of the architects of the progressive movement in Nigeria, saying his political journey has consistently reflected discipline, humility, integrity and commitment to public service.
It noted that the former governor played a pivotal role in the formation, growth and consolidation of the APC, particularly in the North-Central region, while remaining steadfast in promoting the party’s ideals and strengthening its national structure.
The APC Integrity Group argued that with preparations for the 2027 presidential election gradually taking shape, the ruling party needs a leader capable of fostering unity, coordinating stakeholders and inspiring confidence among members, supporters and campaign teams nationwide.
“Senator Tanko Umar Al-Makura possesses these qualities in abundance. His reputation as a bridge-builder and a leader free from divisive controversies makes him an outstanding choice for the position,” the statement said.
The group further stated that Al-Makura enjoys the confidence and respect of party leaders, governors, lawmakers, youth groups, women organisations and grassroots supporters across the country. It added that his experience in governance, lawmaking, party administration and national politics equips him to effectively lead the APC’s presidential campaign structure.
It therefore appealed to the APC leadership and other critical stakeholders to give serious consideration to Al-Makura’s appointment, expressing confidence that such a move would strengthen internal cohesion, energise the party’s campaign machinery and improve its prospects in the 2027 presidential election.
The group maintained that merit, competence, loyalty and integrity should remain the guiding principles in selecting the leadership of the Presidential Campaign Council. It insisted that Al-Makura embodies these values and has the capacity to deliver a focused, inclusive and issue-based campaign capable of mobilising support across the country.
Reaffirming its commitment to the unity, stability and electoral success of the APC, the APC Integrity Group said appointing Al-Makura as PCC Director-General would send a strong message that the party rewards experience, dedication and credible leadership as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
