Community policing has been advocated by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia as a way to address the state’s ongoing insecurity situation.
Alia issued the request while warning that impacted communities should not turn to self-defence.
More than 300 people were killed in recent armed herder raids in Benue State.

Alia has blamed the murders in the state’s Yelewata region on armed herdsmen.
But the governor cautioned that communities would become more open to attacks if they defended themselves.
This was revealed by the governor on Tuesday’s AIT’s Kakaaki show.
He said: “But where you have people who just decide to wake up because of sentiments and emotions that are attached to what is happening with us and within us, I think the rendering ourselves a bit more vulnerable — so I wouldn’t advocate for a self-defence.
