The Chairman of the National Sport Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has confirmed that the Federal Government has fulfilled its promise to the Super Falcons, with the $100,000 cash reward announced by President Bola Tinubu following Nigeria’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph now successfully paid to the players.
Speaking on Friday from Glasgow, where he is attending the Commonwealth Games, Dikko disclosed that he would be travelling to Morocco to officially hand over the keys to the houses promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the players in recognition of their historic WAFCON success.
“I am leaving Glasgow for Morocco this week to present keys to the houses, which His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, promised the Super Falcons after they won the last edition of the WAFCON. Even their $100,000 has been paid into their various bank accounts.”
Dikko explained that the handover ceremony was intentionally postponed to ensure as many players as possible could receive their keys together, rather than having the houses presented individually.
He added that the gesture comes at the right time, expressing confidence that it would further motivate the team as they begin the defence of their African crown in Morocco.
“We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players will be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON event, which will kick off in Morocco in a few days.”
The Super Falcons have already touched down in Casablanca, Morocco, where they were welcomed ahead of the tournament. Dressed in matching green outfits, the players made a stylish arrival as they shifted their attention to preparations for another continental campaign.
Nigeria will begin the defence of their WAFCON crown against Malawi before taking on Zambia and Egypt in Group C. The nine-time African champions are aiming to extend their dominance on the continent by capturing an 11th title, with Morocco hosting the competition from July 26 to August 16.
