According to Spanish newspaper AS, Messi has reached an agreement to purchase all the shares of the club currently held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones, led by businessman Juan Carlos Trujillo.
Spanish news agency EFE also reported that the Argentine forward has reached an agreement in principle to become the majority shareholder of Eldense, who currently compete in Spain’s Segunda División.
The proposed takeover would make Eldense the second Spanish club in Messi’s ownership portfolio after he acquired fifth-tier side UE Cornellà earlier this year.
The deal, which is being carried out by Messi personally, is not yet fully completed. The transaction remains subject to the completion of the necessary legal procedures and approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD).
The mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, has also confirmed that an agreement in principle has been reached and described the development as major news for the city. He urged caution, noting that the takeover still needs to be formally completed.
If completed, the acquisition would represent Messi’s first ownership of a professional Spanish club, having previously taken control of Cornellà , which plays in the Spanish fifth tier.
Eldense, based in the city of Elda in Alicante, have returned to Spain’s second division and currently play their home matches at the Nuevo Pepico Amat stadium.
