The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed the payment of $100,000 to each player of the Nigerian senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The team officials were awarded $50,000 each for their efforts in helping the team win the title.
The players’ and officials’ accounts were credited on September 9, 2026, with all recipients confirming receipt.
Nigeria defeated Mali 78–64, winning by 14 points on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to win their fifth consecutive title and seventh overall in the history of the competition.
According to the NSC, the Presidential reward also included three-bedroom flats for each member of the team, while they were also conferred with National Honours in Abuja.
“With the conclusion of the payment, the entire components of Presidential Rewards to the team have been completed. Each of the players and officials had earlier in February 2026 been presented with the title documents (CofO) to the 3-Bedroom Flat in Abuja and the Certificate of National Honours of OON duly signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.”
Unfortunately, the African champions have been eliminated from the 2026 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after losing all three of their group-stage games days ago.
