In December 2025, Bella Shmurda disclosed that he wrote his popular song “Cash App” specifically for online scammers, or “Yahoo boys”.
Speaking about the song’s motivation in a recent interview with Clout Africa, Shmurda revealed that he chose to release a song that inspires and exposes the challenges faced by Yahoo lads after realising how difficult it was to commit online fraud.
The host asked: “What inspired Cash App? Were you doing Yahoo?”
Shmurda replied: “It is Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] have to dance. These people that are hustling, you have to make them happy. Because internet fraud is stressful. It has a lot of challenges.
“The truth is, when it comes to inspiration, you don’t have any story behind it. It is natural, it just comes. It is God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”
Bella Shmurda released Cash App, which featured rappers Zlatan and Lincoln, in 2020. The song became an instant hit in Nigeria and other African countries.
