Nigerian music executive Don Jazzy has stated that singer Ayra Starr changed his life.
He stated this while reacting to a post by an X user, @_Fabianszn, who shared Ayra Starr’s old picture and commended Don Jazzy for helping her career.
@_Fabianszn wrote, “Don Jazzy really saved Ayra Starr if not she for still dey teach kindergarten children.”
The music executive responded to the message by revealing that Ayra Starr had had a big influence on his own life.
“I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle,” he remarked, describing how they first connected via an Instagram freestyle.

“She has most definitely changed my own life too. And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl.”
In 2020, when Ayra Starr’s Instagram freestyles and song covers went viral, Don Jazzy signed her to his label, Mavin Records.
In September 2025, Don Jazzy shared how he found and spoke with Ayra Starr.
Don Jazzy claimed in an interview that he was struck by Ayra Starr’s potential after discovering her Instagram posts.
He claims that after asking a young Gen Z contact if they knew anyone in their school or social circle who was a singer, the contact sent him several Instagram sites, including Ayra Starr’s page.

He claimed that a freestyle video that Ayra Starr shared that included topics pertinent to Gen Z experiences was what initially drew his interest.
Don Jazzy claimed he sneaked into her direct message, introduced himself, and expressed interest in collaborating with her because he was drawn to her youthful enthusiasm and the newness she offered to Afrobeat music.
He claimed that in order to help with communication, he also contacted her brother, even though she didn’t reply right away.
“I don’t know whether it’s a genius idea or not. It just felt like the industry needed it, you know what I’m saying
For somebody like Ayra, there was a space for a young teenage Afrobeat superstar from Nigeria that we want to make sure becomes global. So it was very intentional.
“I saw her, she posted on Instagram and I saw it. For her actually, I reached out to one of these young GenZ Ladies that I follow on the internet that everybody said I like to follow people but anyway, I reached out to one of them.
“I said, hello. I might not be able to come to like you people schools and things like that to Find some of the talents that people have. In your school or in your circle of friends You don’t have somebody, people that can sing that you know All your friends know that the person can sing and this one, this one, this one, this one You say, in my school we have some people, this one, this one, this one.
“She sent a couple of Instagram pages of some people That oh look at them and you say I look at them. I said, okay fine. They’re not bad I’ll keep watching them to see how they will move on the social media space And luckily for me, one of those days She now saw a video where I was freestyling and sent it to me.
