Tim Godfrey, a gospel musician, has supported gospel performers who charge for their performances, stating that professionalism and mission are not incompatible.
Godfrey emphasised in a recent social media post that receiving just compensation is essential to maintaining a ministry and that charging for performances does not diminish an artist’s spirituality.
The singer recalled his early experiences, stating that following performances, he was occasionally compensated with food items like live chicken and yams tubers.

However, he pointed out that since things have changed, artists should be fairly compensated for their labour and ministry-related services.
He stated:
“I don’t like coming. Okay, Coming to Nigeria became difficult because of how artists are being treated so badly.
“And I want to say it’s all of those stories of why they’re charging? Why are they collecting money? Why are they doing this? It got me so, so mad. I said why are people wicked?

“What sense does it make that people work so hard, and you are saying they should take… I have collected tubers of yams as honorarium. I have collected a full, alive, living, working, breathing chicken as honorarium.
“And that is what I’m going to use to pay school fees, pay house rent, and buy property? No. That is so unfair. That is absolutely unfair.”
Praise Onyeagwalam, AKA Director Pink, a Nigerian music video director, has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to abandon her acting career.
The celebrated cinematographer revealed that she left that line of work because of the s*xual exploitation and humiliation of aspiring performers.
Director Pink claimed in a recent interview with Hip TV that she changed careers to become her own boss because she was embarrassed by the long lines at film auditions and the suspicious calls she received from male filmmakers asking her to go to compromising settings.
“I wanted to be an actress but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss,” she said.
Director Pink went on to say that although directing music videos can be difficult at times, she is prepared to put in the effort for her work.
Stressing that it took those in their prime years to reach their current position, she advised aspiring music video directors to embrace delayed gratification and exercise patience.
